Iʼve been on a tequila tear lately. Hereʼs some of my concoctions as of late:

My last trip to Mexico was a margarita fest for sure. I had so many that the sour mix was beginning to give me heartburn so I asked the bartender what drink he preferred in leu of the almighty margarita. It turned out pretty simple and quite tasty.

The Paloma

  • Salt rimmed glass
  • Muddle a few wedges of lime tequila (2oz or more)
  • Fresca

Every chance we get we spend our gig downtime looking for the next greatest mexican eatery. The trend these days is to get the “spicy” margarita with the meal. This has definitely become a family favorite. There are many ways to do this little slice of tequila heaven but here is my favorite.

The Spicy Marg

  • Salt rimmed glass
  • Muddle lime and a few slivers of habanero
  • tequila blanco (2oz or more)
  • agave nectar (tblsp or so)
  • splash of OJ
  • Grand Mariner topper

you could get a bit of soda water in there to chill it out but I usually donʼt

Do yourself a favor and get some good tequila for these recipes. Good tequila is great and bad tequila is.. well.. bad. 1800 is pretty much the worst tequila I will use. Patron is always a good choice. Milagro and Corralejo are excellent choices as well.

Iʼve also substituted Grand Mariner for Solerno. Itʼs a blood orange liqueur and itʼs a happy little departure from Grand Mariner.

Try that shit.
